MONITORING (SW) – Afghanistan finished as runners-up behind Japan at the Asian Football Federation Under – 20 Futsal Championship held in Iran.
In a thrilling final match on Saturday, Afghanistan lost to Japan by a close margin of 1-3 in front of thousands of spectators in the city of Tabriz. The Afghans held Japan restricted to 2 goals in the first half, and managed to score one in the second half of the game. But, the much more experienced Japanese side managed to score a third goal in the second half to consolidate the lead and win the match.
A total of 12 Asian teams took part in this event. Afghanistan won three of its five matches including victories over Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia. It only lost to Iran and the champion Japan.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and CE Abdullah Abdullah telephoned the headcoach Abdul Razaq and congratulated him on the team’s performance.
