KABUL (SW): Afghanistan stood at the fourth slot as the South Asian Games 2016 concluded with India on the top.
Though, Afghanistan secured less number of total medals (35) in comparison to Bangladesh (75) but the fact that the Afghans bagged more (7) Gold than the Bengalis athletes (4), it was awarded the fourth slot.
For Afghanistan, Rohullah Nekpa, Simi Ghulami, Sharif Murdi, Mahmood Haideri, Ahmad Bakhshi and Mohsin Razai won Gold medals in Taekwondo while Khkairullah Lalzad secured the Gold in Wushu.
Over all, eight teams including the winner India, runner-up Sri Lanka, followed by Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan took part in this 12th edition of the SAG.
The champion and host bagged a total of 308 medals that included 188 Gold, followed by Sri Lanka with a total of 186 including 25 Gold while Pakistan got a total of 106 medals that included 12 Gold.
An estimated 2672 athlete from the eight participating countries took place in the SAG that took place from 5 February to 16 February 2016 in Guwahati and Shillong, India. This was the third time for Afghanistan to take part in SAG.
