KABUL (SW): Afghanistan on Sunday outclassed multiple-times world champion West Indies to win the ICC World Cup 2019 qualifying tournament.
In the final match, Mujid Zadran’s impressive bowling and Shahzad Mohammadi’s quick-fire half-century ensured victory over much superior opponent. Afghanistan reached the final after shaky start when reaching the second round did not seem possible.
Batting first, West Indies were reduced to set a nominal target of 205 runs in the given 50 overs. Mujid took four wickets. Chasing the target, Shahzad and Gulbuddin Naib provided a good platform. Shahzad scored 84 while Rehmat Shah scored 51 runs. At the end, all-rounder Mohammad Nabi hit three back-to-back sixes to finish the game.
Afghanistan would now face top ten teams in the cricket world at the ICC Cricket World 2019 in England.
