BEIJING/KABUL (SW): Afghanistan is optimistic about potentials for growth in international trade with China’s ‘Belt and Road’ initiative.
Beijing is hosting a two-day “Belt and Road” conference for the Silk Road Fund on Sunday and Monday. Afghanistan is being represented by Homayoun Rasa, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Homayoun Qayomi, Presidential Adviser on Natural Resources, at this summit. According to Hindustan Times, Chinese President Xi Jinping said during the first day of the summit: “We should build an open platform of cooperation and uphold and grow an open world economy”. China has pledged 14.5 billion dollars to the Silk Road Fund.
Authorities at the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) believe that the “One Belt and One Road” project is beneficial for the country.
Sayam-u-Din Pasarlay, spokesman for the ACCI, told Salam Watandar that the implementation of this project will open commercial and transit routes for business while connecting the Central Asian countries to South Asia and the West. He further said more than 20 countries are involved in this project. The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries believe that with the implementation of this project import and export costs will decrease for Afghanistan.
