ASHGABAT (SW): Afghanistan’s futsal squad lost a crucial match to Iran in the semi-final of the ongoing Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games AIMAG 2017 on Sunday.
The first half was dominated by the Iranians with back-to-back attacks earning them six goals. Afghanistan only managed to score one goal in this phase.
In the second half, the Afghans played positively and inflicted second goal on the Iranians in the initial stage. That was it. Afghanistan could not add more goals to its tally despite trying hard for it. Meanwhile, Iran scored two more goals to take the lead to 8-2 which became literally impossible for Afghanistan to chase.
In the quarter final, Afghanis defeated the host Turkmenistan while Iran outclassed Thailand. For the bronze medal, Afghanistan would now face either Japan or Uzbekistan.
