KABUL (SW): The Afghan government has made it clear its high ranking delegation would not attend the forth coming session of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The session of QCG is poised to meet in Pakistan to discuss the Afghan peace process. Kabul government however, has asserted that since Pakistan has failed to fulfill its commitments in regard to either bring the Taliban to the negotiation table or take action against those bent upon destruction, it would not send the regular high-ranking delegation to Islamabad that was so far attending these talks.
Dawa Khan Meenapal, deputy Presidential Spokesman, told Salam Watandar that Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan might attend the talks.
According to Razaq Barq, a Pakistan-based journalist, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has announced that the next session of the QCG would be held in Islamabad on May 18.
Earlier, Sartaj Aziz, Pakistan’s National Security Advisor was quoted saying by the press that Pakistan would not assert military pressure over the Afghan Taliban and instead Afghanistan should resolve the issue on its own. Barq said that Sartaz Aziz has vowed to take action against the Taliban if the QCG talks’ outcome was not satisfactory.
Waheed Mujda, a security affairs’ analyst said in this regard that the Taliban might also dispatch a rather low-profile team for the QCG talks in Islamabad. He went on to say that Pakistan was only orchestrating such ‘symbolic’ sessions to quell the international pressure it is facing.
