Afghanistan Lawyer’s Union urge NUG to set aside differences

17/08/2016

KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Lawyer’s Union (ALU) charged leaders of the National Unity Government (NUG) on Wednesday for not implementing a single article of the political agreement that serves as laid foundations of the government.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Gul Ahmad Madadzai, the deputy head of the ALU, said that if leaders of the NUG failed to implement the articles of the political accord, the government would lose its legitimacy.

He urged upon the leaders to put aside their differences and put into practice the political agreement as soon as possible.

The latest cold war of words between the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and his power-sharing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah has concerned the citizens.

Abdul Wahid Farzayee, a member of the ALU, said on the occasion that the tension between the two leaders is not in the interest of the citizens, and would sink the country into further crisis. He emphasized on holding ‘Loya Jirga’ (grand council) and amending the Constitution.

He said that before holding the Loya Jirga, the parliamentary and local council elections should be held since that could pave the way for the Loya Jirga.
