PARIS (SW): The latest FIFA ranking has seen Afghanistan jump by six slots to the 150th rank in the world.
The world football management body announced the latest ranking after the completion of the Euro Cup in France. It saw Afghanistan earn 19 more points to take the total from 184 to 203, and earning it an improved rank. This comes at a time when the Afghan side is poised to play at least two international matches in the coming months.
As per the schedule, Afghanistan would take on Lebanon in Beirut on September 5, and later take on Malaysia on October 11 in Kuala Lumpur.
European champions Portugal are up to sixth in the FIFA Ranking, France climb 10 places, but the top five remain unchanged. Portugal climbed above Spain into sixth place in the latest FIFA Ranking.
Argentina remains top despite losing the final of the Copa America Centenario in June. The four teams behind them – Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile – remain unchanged. France, who were beaten by Portugal in the Euro 2016 final last Sunday, have jumped 10 places into seventh, while Italy are back in the top 10 after their run to the quarter-finals.
