KABUL (SW): Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Using this reason, I visited several manufacturing factories in the capital. I went to a shoe manufacturing factory in Kabul. Workers were sitting in a row, punching hole for laces of the shoes. I sat next to Samsour. It has been four years that he is working in this factory. He says he is happy with his work. Abdul Basir sits on the left side of Samsour. He has a little more experience than Samsour in this factory; 5 years. Abdul Basir says he has been dealing with shoes for about 20 years. With the wages they take from this factory, they said; they can pass their lives easily. For more information on working conditions and the number of workers, I spoke with Abdul Jabbar Sapi, the owner and founder of this factory. His goal was creating jobs when he founded this factory; he says.
According to Mr. Sapi, currently more than 100 men and women are working at this factory. He added that he chose his workers from all over the country and made a residence for migrant workers.
At Rasul Khan’s factory too, there are a lot of workers busy working. Rasul Khan, owner and founder of plastic carpet factory says; that he has been able to provide opportunity for work for 20 citizens. This businessman adds that he has provided residence for his workers and provided them with healthcare facilities as well.
I went to Sayam Pesarlai, the spokesperson for the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry to ask about the number of skilled and unskilled workers. He said, "the private sector has provided millions of citizens across the country the opportunity to work".
According to the spokesperson for business and industrial chambers, Afghanistan is moving out of “absolute poverty”, and the private sector, with the establishment of factories and creation of stable businesses, does all it can to eradicate poverty in the country.
The country’s small and big investors have always said that if the government of Afghanistan supports them and prevents administrative corruption in state institutions, the amount of investments will increase and number of job vacancy will expand as well.
