KABUL (SW): Flamboyant Shahzab Mohammadi stormed Afghanistan through to the final of Desert T20 cricket tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday.
The Afghan side convincingly won the semi-final against Oman by eight wickets thanks to the explosive display of batting by the opener Shahzad Mohammadi. The wicketkeeper batsman scored 80 runs of 60 balls with 3 sixes and 8 fours.
Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and asked Oman to bat first. Afghanistan contained Oman for much part of their innings, but in the last few overs, Oman managed to score runs at a much quicker pace than the average during the early overs. Oman scored 149 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the given 20 overs,. Zeeshan Maqsood was the top scorer with 33 runs. Fareed Ahmad took three wickets.
Chasing this decent target, veteran Nawroz Mangal and hard-hitting Shahzad Mohammadi started Afghanistan’s chase. Both laid a solid foundation with 91 runs partnership in 12 overs. Mangal got out for 34 runs. Afghanistan achieved the target of 150 runs in the 19th over with the loss of just two wickets.
Shahzad Mohammadi was named as the man of the match.
