MONITORING (SW) – Afghanistan has failed to qualify for the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
Under an Iranian trainer, Maisam Ashtyani, Afghanistan’s national beach soccer team failed to capitalize on its maiden victory over Malaysia in the qualifying rounds.
In October 2018, it was announced the tournament will take place in Paraguay at the city of Asuncion, between 21 November and 1 December 2019. This marks the first time that Paraguay will host a FIFA event and that a landlocked country will receive the World Cup.
In qualifying rounds, Afghanistan lost to Thailand 2-0 in its Group A. According to Afghanistan Football Federation, the national team prepared for these qualifying rounds in the cold Kabul weather. Earlier, Afghanistan beat Malaysia 2-3. Afghanistan had also lost to Palestine 3-2.
From this group, Malaysia and Palestine have made it to the quarter finals of the qualifying rounds. Finalists of the group would be announced on March 17.
The 2019 AFC Beach Soccer Championship contested by Asian men's national teams, organised by the Asian Football Confederation took place in Pattaya, Thailand between 7–17 March 2019.
Afghanistan secured on 6th slot among 13 teams competing at this event two years ago.
