KABUL (SW): Afghanistan’s Under-19 Cricket Team overpowered Singapore in the Asian Qualifying round for the forthcoming World Cup.
According to Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the visitors restricted the host Singaporean team to just 92 runs in the 27th over in this One Day match. Right-arm fast bowler Yosuf Zazai proved too good for Singaporean batsmen to handle. Zazai took five key wickets to restrict the hosts to this minimal target in the fifty-over game, and ensured this second back to back victory for the Afghan squad.
Earlier, Captain Naveenul Haq won the toss and elected to bowl first. Besides Zazai, Naveenul Haq and Zaher Khan also bowled well and took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
Chasing this easy target, Afghanistan’s U-19 team got off a decent start. It took the Afghans only 17 overs and three wickets to reach the target. Naveed Obaid scored 30, Imran Mohammadi 27 and Tariq Stanikzai 25. Yosuf Zazai was crowned as man of the match. He earned this title in the previous match against Malaysia as well.
Afghanistan would take on Nepal for the third match of the U-19 World Cup qualifiers on Thursday. Speaking at the match ceremony in the evening, captain of the national team vowed to perform well in all forthcoming games in a bid to secure place at the World Cup.
