KABUL (SW): A clean sweep against Zimbabwe in a T20 cricket series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has earned Afghanistan landmark 8th slot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ranking ahead of the likes of former world champion Sri Lanka.
After winning the first match on Monday, and the second match on Tuesday night, Afghanistan passed Sri Lanka, and secured the 8th slot on the bases of points.
Batting first in the second match of the series, the Afghans piled-up a decent target of 159 runs. All-rounder Mohammad Nabi was the pick of the batsmen with his elegant 45 runs. Chasing the target, Zimbabwe was reduced to 141 runs in the given 20 overs.
For Afghanistan, Rashid Khan and Mujib Zadran took two wickets each while Nabi took one wicket to earn the title of the man of the match.
The two sides have so far played a total of 7 T20 matches, and all have been won by Afghanistan. Matches of the One Day International (ODI) series would commence on Friday in Sharjah.
