28/11/2017

KABUL (SW): Afghanistan is set to take on the United Arab Emirates in the final stage of Inter-Continental Cup cricket tournament among eight teams.

In this International Cricket Council (ICC) event, Afghanistan and the UAE would begin the four-day match on Wednesday at 10:00 am Afghanistan time. A victory in this match would secure second Inter-Continental Cup triumph for Afghanistan.

Among the eight participating teams, Afghanistan has the top place with 101 points from six matches, five victories and one equalizer. The ICC had announced that the top team of the Inter-Continental Cup can play home and away test matches with the 10th full member of the ICC, but the cricket governing body had already granted full memberships in July to Afghanistan and Ireland.

Mohammad Asghar Stanikzai, captain of the national squad, has said the team has been preparing for the Inter-Continental Cup since last year. He said the team has prepared for this event in a training camp in India, and is confident to win the event.

Afghanistan would be joined by the UAE, Ireland, Scotland, PNG, Holland, Hong Kong, and Namibia for the Inter-Continental Cup matches.
