Afghanistan bags its first gold and silver at AIMAG

KABUL (SW): Afghanistan has successfully commenced the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) at Ashghabat with a gold and a silver medal on Sunday.

23-year-old Hussain Safari won the gold for Afghanistan in Men’s 62 kilogram category of Ju-Jitsu Contact beating his rival from Turkmenistan Dawut Nuryyew. 21-year-old Jawid Ahmad Amiri won silver for Afghanistan in 60 kilogram category of Men’s Freestyle Wrestling after making it to the final by beating Uzbekistan’s Abdulrasul Khabibullaev and Turkmenistan’s Nowruz Eyebergiyew before losing 2-4 to the host country’s Tirkisgeldi Ayazow in the final.

In other action, Afghanistan’s Ahmad Jawad Sadat lost his Muay Thai match against Uzbekistan’s Yarknat Ospan in the 60 kilogram category while Farid Bahar from Afghanistan also lost his match to his Chinese rival in the 81 kilogram category. Afghanistan’s Futsal team would face Nepal tomorrow after a humiliating defeat of 1-6 against China on the first day.

With this, Afghanistan stands on the sixth slot while the host Turkmenistan remains on top with a total of 37 medals that include 16 gold, 14 silver and 7 bronze medals.
