Afghanistan and the EU holds dialogue on human rights

KABUL (SW): Expressing concerns over state of human rights in Afghanistan, Ambassador Franz-Michael Mellbin, the European Union's special representative to Afghanistan, said on Wednesday that the resolve is there to improve things for good.

He was addressing the Second Afghanistan-EU Dialogue on Human Rights at the Foreign Ministry alongside the Second Vice President Sarwar Danish. Ambassador Franz-Michael Mellbin said in his remarks that the EU stand by Afghanistan in its resolve to improve the state of human rights in the country.

He noted that this dialogue has provided a good opportunity to the Afghan government to underline its plans and priorities in this regard for the NATO’s forthcoming Warsaw Summit later this year.

He noted that the issues related to women, children and disabled person’s rights, capital punishments, freedom of speech, civilian casualties and access to justice worry the EU.

In his remarks, Sarwar Danish highlighted that the government remains committed to stand by its resolve to address these matters. He highlighted that the Kabul government remains in need of international support in this regard.
