KABUL (SW): Afghanistan is all set to pursue its bid for membership at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization later this week.
The 15th annual gathering of the SCO is set to take place in Kirghizstan by the end of this week. leading a high level Afghan delegation, Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), would attend this conference to pursue the matter of Afghanistan’s membership.
Jawid Faisal, the deputy spokesperson for the CEO, told Salam Watandar that the conference would take place on 2nd of November in Bishkek, capital for Kirghizstan. He added that on the sidelines of the conference, the CEO would discuss security issues and matters relating to regional cooperation with representatives of the member states.
The deputy spokesperson for the CEO added that efforts for getting membership (SCO) were initiated years ago and it is hoped Afghanistan would soon become a permanent member of the SCO.
Afghanistan has participated as an observer at the SCO’s previous conferences. Indian and Pakistan are also looking for permanent membership in the SCO.
