CHARIKAR (SW): Jobs of at least three thousand Afghan workers at the U.S. forces’ Bagram Base and Airfield is at risk following a suicide attack inside the base couple of days ago.
Two workers at the base, on the condition of anonymity, told Salam Watandar that since the blast they have not been allowed to enter for work. The suicide attacker who claimed the lives of four U.S. soldiers inside the base has been identified as Qari Inayatullah who had been working at this base for the past five years.
Waheed Siddiqui, the provincial governor has confirmed the development. He told Salam Watandar that the U.S. officials previously said that they are busy in investigations into the attack and would allow the workers after two days but today was the third day since the gates have been closed for the Afghan workers. About the attacker, the governor said that Qari Inayatullah shunned militancy a few years back and joined the peace process.
The provincial office of the High Peace Council (HPC) however, rejects the governor’s claims. Zalmay Saboor, the head of HPC in Baghlan, said they have no one in their records with the name of Inyatullah who joined the peace process.
It is vital to note that the Bagram Base and Airfield have previously been targeted from a distance with mortars on a number of occasions but the suicide attack inside the base three days ago is unprecedented.
