Afghan Turks want their ethnicity mentioned in e-Tazkira

KABUL (SW): Representatives of the Afghan Turk community have called for marking their ethnicity on the face of the new bio-metric identification cards (e-Tazkiras) and in the Constitution.

In a gathering on Wednesday, representatives of ethnic Uzbek, Turkman, Qarlooq, Tatar, Timorid, Aimaq, Qirghides- Qazaq communities issued a declaration demanding the name ‘Turks’ written on the face of the e-Tazkiras and the Constitution.

They urged the government to recognize the sub-clans of the Turks just as the sub-clans of the Pashtuns, Tajiks, Uzbeks, Hazaras, Turkmans, Qazaqs and other ethnicities in the “Afghanistan Ethnicity List” for the distribution of e-Tazkiras. The organizers of the gathering also urged government to speed up the distribution process of e-Tazkiras.

Sardar Mohammad Rahman Ogholi, former speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house), said the identity of each person is important for ones’ economic, political and social freedom which should not be ignored in the current situation. He urged people to respect and be proud of their ethnicity and thrive for the prosperity of the country.
