KABUL, Afghanistan (AA) – Tadamichi Yamamoto, head of UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, on Thursday urged Afghan leaders to create an inclusive government.
“In meeting Dr. Abdullah today in #Kabul UN #Afghanistan envoy Yamamoto stressed the importance of Afg leaders coming together to create an inclusive government acceptable to all, respecting the constitution. This is critical for forming a representative peace negotiation team”, said the statement issued by the UNAMA.
On his part, Abdullah – president of the ‘Inclusive Government’ said in a statement that the two sides discussed current situation and peace process."I welcomed UNAMA Chief Tadamichi Yamamoto’s call today to discuss the current political situation and peace efforts. We agreed on the need for unity & inclusivity in Afghanistan", he said.
This comes as the U.S. special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad failed to resolve the lingering electoral rift between President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and his former power-sharing Chief Executive, Abdullah Abdullah leading to parallel oath taking ceremonies for the top position.
