Afghan athletes bag medals at the Invictus Games 2017

KABUL (SW): The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF)’s disabled team bagged one silver and one bronze medal in their first Invictus Games held in Canada.

Both medals were won in the weightlifting category. Mohammad Essa Akbari won a silver while Nasir Ahmad Halimi bagged a bronze medal for Afghanistan.

The Afghan veterans and military servicemen’s volleyball and weightlifting teams will compete against others on Tuesday as well.

The Invictus Games 2017 is hosted by Canada with the participation of 550 disabled athletes (military veterans, wounded service persons) from Afghanistan, United States, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, France, Holland, Jordan, Estonia, Iraq, Ukraine, and Georgia.

Afghanistan is represented by 7 ANSF members at the Games.
