Afghan and Pakistani military meets for counter terrorism measures

KABUL (SW): Offices of the Afghan National Army (ANA) have had face to face meetings with their Pakistani counterparts on ways to enhance cooperation against terrorism.

The eight members delegation of the Afghan National Army headed by Corps Commander Lieutenant General Mohammad Sharif Yaftali visited Corps Headquarters of the Pakistan Army and called on Corps Commander Lieutenant General Hidayat ur Rehman.

Gen. Shareef Yaftali, Commander of the ANA’s Thunder Corps told Salam Watandar that the meeting was held in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on Saturday 30 January. Gen. Yaftali said both sides also conferred on trust development measures. He noted that the Commander of Pakistan Army’s 11th Corps assured that Pakistan considers terrorism a mutual enemy.

The Pakistani General assured us that those rebels not willing to join the peace process in Afghanistan would be targeted by the armies on both sides of the line. Gen. Yaftali said that it was also agreed to hold close contacts for better coordination between the two armies.

Pakistan Army said in this regard that the Afghan delegates discussed matters pertaining to mutual interest and security arrangements at Pak-Afghan border. “Both commanders agreed on better coordination and enhancing security measures at both sides”, it added

Visit of Afghan National Army delegation is followed up of Army Chief General Raheel Sharif’s last visit to Afghanistan in which it was decided that Corps Commanders from respective sides will hold meetings for better border management.

Rahimullah Yosufzai, Peshawar based journalists said that it seems quite difficult at the moment to see both countries working closely for counter terrorism measures. Speaking to Salam Watandar on telephone, he said Pakistan has not taken practical measures in this regard.
