KABUL (SW): The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) was informed on Saturday that the Afghan Air Force (AAF) would receive aid and assistance worth around $ 2.5 billion in the coming two years.
This was noted by the Interim Minister for Defense Mohammad Masoum Stanikzai as he along with the Interior Minister Noorul Haq Ulomi and Masoud Indrabi, Interim Head of the National Directorate of Security, were called to brief the house on security affairs. Stanikzai said that though this amount of aid was not sufficient enough but it would definitely help improve the AAF’s radar, engineering and other sections to greater extent.
Stanikzai said this year, the AAF would be equipped with D-530 and E-29 aircrafts this year. He also briefed the Wolesi Jirga about the countries providing support to strengthen Afghanistan’s air power. The Interim Defense Minister also revealed that efforts are underway to establish a helicopter producing factory in the country.
On his part, the Interior Minister said that with the Chinese assistance, Afghan government would be equipped to monitor and stop any efforts to bring large scale of explosives into the country via different entry points.
The NDS chief said on the occasion that more than 14 terrorist groups have been dismantled in some 2200 clean-up operations across the country since the establishment of new government in the country.
This comes at a time when the Taliban, unlike the past, have continuous waging terror even during the winter.
