KABUL (SW): Dozens of civil society activists gathered in the capital Kabul on Thursday to express their opposition towards a deal between the Afghan government and the European Union in regard to the deportation of the failed asylum seekers. These civil activists stated that this agreement is contrary to the Geneva Convention. Ahmad Zaki, an activist, noted that the National Unity Government (NUG) has not been able to settle the 1.5 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and the government should have not signed this deal with the EU.
Abdul Ghafor Rafae, the head for a consultancy group for Afghan refugees, asserted that the deal to send the Afghan migrants back has been signed between the EU and NUG, before being discussed in the parliaments of the European countries. Ghafor noted that the Afghan government should have asked the asylum seekers to share their views before signing the agreement.
Meanwhile, Shah Hussain Murtazawi, the deputy spokesperson for the President told Salam Watandar that the government is ready to warmly receive those not meeting requirements for asylum in the EU. He noted that the civil activists can share their views with the government in case they have any practical plan for the repatriation of these immigrants.
Mirwais Basharpal, a deported migrant, told Salam Watandar that insecurity, unemployment and poverty are the main reasons behind the migration of the Afghans to the EU. The civil activists in Kabul have stated that forced deportation of the Afghan refugees is a “non-democratic deed”.
