KABUL (SW): Nangarhar’s civil society activists demanded the prosecution of Gulab Mangal, the provincial governor, in a press conference here in Kabul on Tuesday.
The activists demanded the prosecution of the governor for alleged corruption, kidnapping and land grabbing besides surge in Daesh’s activities and insecurity in the province. Khalid Sadat, a civil society activist, said Gulab Mangal was a failure as a governor in Laghman, Helmand and as head of several entities before becoming governor of Nangarhar. “The residents and civil society activists of Nanagarhar want Gulab Mangal to be abdicated and prosecuted”, added Sadat.
The activists also claimed that the governor prosecuted protestors from Kama district who were demanding legal land acquisition in the province. The protestors have warned to carry on with the agitation if their demands are not met.
But, Atta-u-llah Khogyani, provincial governor’s spokesman, rejected the allegation made against the governor. He added that such ‘baseless’ allegations are harmful for the well-being of people and the province. “The leadership of the province is trying to develop the province and are on track”, defended Khogyani.
