TALOQAN (SW): Some mullahs (clergymen) and university lecturers have been preaching against the democratic values of the government of Afghanistan.
On Wednesday, two clergymen from Takhar on two different occasions issued fatwa (religious decree) against the government. These clergymen are named as “Malawi Mubashir” and “Mawlawi Subhanullah”. One of the clergymen had disgraced as a local television cameraman. The residents of Taloqan have said the words of the clergymen are hurting the relationship between the people and the government while the preaching is beneficial for the anti-government insurgents.
Shafiq Poya, head of provincial journalist union, told Salam Watandar the comments by the local television cameraman is unacceptable, such clergymen should be prosecuted who spread hatred against media.
Mokhlis Taloqani, provincial spokesman for the Directorate of Haj and Islamic Affairs (DoHIA), confirms that some clergymen are using mosques to spread hatred and anti-government sentiments. “The provincial DoHIA will review the preachings of these two clergymen in a committee, and urge government to prosecute them. Takhar province has at least 4 thousand mosques, only 114 mosque are registered”, informed Taloqani.
Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, provincial police chief, said the police will consult religious council and elders of the province regarding the issue to decide on the apprehension of the two clergymen.
