KABUL (SW): Pakistan has raised tariff by three-fold on imports from Afghanistan that pose serious threat in particular to fresh and dried fruits' traders.
Khan Jan Alakozay, deputy president of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI), told a press conference here on Saturday that Pakistan has raised tariff on up to 120 items from Afghanistan such as coal, precious and semi-precious stones, fresh and dried fruits, herbs and vegetables.
He said one ton of pomegranate, apple, and grapes were previously levied 8000 rupees, but now it is raised to 12000, 18000 and 28000 rupees respectively. Same is the case with a number of other items. Alakozay pronounced this as brazen violation of international trade norms and treaties signed by both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The ACCI has urged the government to play its due role in resolving this issue with Pakistan or trade with Pakistan would be seized completely.
