KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced to hire top class foreign coaches for different teams in the upcoming 5th Shpageza T20 Championship in the capital Kabul.
Boost Defenders, one of the six teams in the event, has announced to engage former Sri Lankan captain and renowned left-handed batsman Sanath Jayasuriya as head-coach. Eyeing tough competition at this domestic tournament, Spingar Bazan, another team in the Shpageza T20, has announced plans to hire South Africa’s iconic former opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs to coach the team in this event. However, no official announcement has been made in this regard.
It is noted that a number of other foreign players are also likely to join the festivity in different capacities. The ACB officials has said players from South Africa, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are likely to feature in the Shpageza.
Shafiqullah Stanikzai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the ACB, have said popularity of the Shpageza is on the rise. He said letters of interest for broadcasting the event in Germany and Bangladesh have also reached the ACB. He added the event would be broadcast globally via HD quality.
The Shpageza T20 championship would commence on September 11 following an inauguration ceremony on September 10. The Kabul Bazan would try to defend its title in this event.
