KABUL (SW): Certified and leading Afghan cricket umpire Bismillah Jan Shinwari is going through a rough patch in life as he is unable to afford the healthcare he needs for the cardiac problems he is facing.
Talking to Salam Watandar, the seasoned umpire said some individuals at the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) have assured him of support, but the ACB itself has not come for his rescue at this critical moment. Shinwari said he receives a minimal of 11471 afghanis as monthly salary, which is not sufficient for his tertiary healthcare treatment.
He said the ACB pays due attention to the state of the players, but it does not care about the umpires. Shinwari is under treatment in Peshawar’s Rehman Hospital these days.
Salam Watandar wished to obtain the views of ACB in this regard, but to no avail. It remains elusive what is the official policy of the cricket board in this regard, and if the needy umpire would get some support or not.
