KABUL (SW) – The Afghanistan Cricket Board on Tuesday shared with journalists aspects of its ambitious future strategy till 2025 aimed at scaling up the standing of the national team.
Shafiqullah Stanikzai, ACB chief executive, said on the occasion work is underway steadily on the current four-year plan for improvement in the national team in the limited over ant T-20 formats of the game.
He said in line with this strategy, Afghanistan shall move up from current international ranking of 8th in the T-20 format to the 6th while from the current 10th in the limited overs’ format to the 7th by 2019. Stanikzai said Asghar Afghan would remain captain at least till the ICC World Cup 2019.
The ACB chief executive said replacements have been trained for Asghar, but at present he is the suitable choice for the post.
He also hailed the recently held Afghan Premier League as the second most popular commercial league following the Indian Premiere League. Stanikzai said the government has offered five avenues of up to 60 jeribs for the ACB to select one for an international stadium. He added the present facility would be changed into an academy once a new stadium is developed.
The ACB chief executive added to nurture future generation of quality cricketers, club cricket would be promoted in the country. As part of the future strategy, cricket academies would be established in all 34 provinces and National Cricket Academies would be set-up in all five zones.
