KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced squad for the forthcoming tour of Europe.
Two separate set of teams have been announced for the One Day Internationals (ODIs) and the four-day matches. The statement issued by the cricket board has noted that all-rounder Mirwais Ashraf, Nasir Jamal and Ehsanullah Janat have managed to secure slots while emerging wicket-keeper batsman Afsar Zazai has failed to impress the selectors.
For the four-day match, the 14-member squad include, Captain Asghar Stanikzai, Mohammad Nabi, Dawlat Zadran, Mirwais Ashraf, Nasir Jamal, Ehsanullah Janat, Zahir Khan, Syed Sherzad, Noor Ali, Rehmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shaheedi, Yamin Ahmadzai and Samiullah Shinwari. On the reserve bench include Afsar Zazai, Abdullah Adil and Jawed Ahmadi.
For the ODIs, Nasir Jamal and Jawed Ahmadi have managed to become part of the 16-member squad that would take on Scotland and Ireland next month.
The ODI squad include Captain Asghar Stanikzai, Mohammad Nabi, Shahzad Mohammadi, Dawlat Zadran, Mirwais Ashraf, Samiullah Shinwari, Hameed Hassan, Shahpu Zadran, Noor Ali, Rashid Khan, Gulbudin Naib, Jawed Ahmadi, Yamin Ahmadzai, Rehmat Shah, Amir Hamza and Najibullah Zadran.
The national team would depart for Europe on 27 June after completing the training camp in India. Due to the lack of a head coach, Raees Ahmadzai and Dawlat Ahmadzai would serve as coach and mentors. Afghanistan would play two ODIs against Scotland on July 4 and 6.
Afterwards, the Afghans would take on Ireland for an ODI on July 10. The tour would end with a four-day match against the Netherlands as part of the Inter-continental Cup on August 01.
Afghanistan is ranked 10th in the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s ODI rankings while it is placed 3rd in the Inter-Continental Cup’s four-day matches.
