ACB announces drastic changes

11/06/2019

KABUL (SW) – Chairman Afghanistan Cricket Board, Azizullah Fazli, on Tuesday announced drastic changes have been made to address budgetary issues and promote young talent.

Addressing a press conference at the ACB headquarters in Kabul, he said Ahmad Jawed Paikar, Ziaulhaq Amarkhail, Aatif Mashal and Gulalai Noor Safi have been nominated as new board members to replace Hekmat Khalil Karzai, Eklil Hakimi, Syed Sadat Naderi and Ahmad Shah Sangdil.

He announced Andy Moles, a former English professional cricketer who played first-class cricket, would take charge as member of selection committee along with Mujahed Zadran while the post of chief selector would be abolished.

Fazli announced more changes would be introduced after the Cricket World Cup 2019.

The ACB chairman announced job vacancy for the chief executive officer would soon be announced, and until then the interim CEO Assadullah Khan would continue.

This comes as the ACB is under fire for the poor performance of the Afghan team at the World Cup following an eleventh hour decision to name Gulbudin Naib as captain replacing Asghar Afghan.
