PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Special unit of the spy agency National Directorate for Security (NDS) on Thursday claimed to have nabbed officials associated with six schools in connection with the Taliban in eastern Logar province.

Wazir Ahmad Momand, deputy head for the Provincial Education Department has confirmed the incident. Momand told SW that these men associated with various schools were arrested last evening when they returned from a gathering with the armed rebels in the provincial capital.

He however, argued that the teachers and school administrators in restive districts are compelled to keep contact with the rebels in a bid to ensure their own and the students’ safety.

Mohammad Salim Saleh, spokesman for the provincial governor said about the matter that investigations were underway into the case. Last week, the militants threatened four girls school’s administration against teaching beyond the primary level. The Taliban have torched many schools across Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the local security establishment has imposed ban on motorcycle riding for indefinite time over security concerns. Mohammad Dawood Ahmadi, Logar Security Chief told journalists that an overwhelming majority of militants use motorbikes for terrorist activities hence the ban has been imposed on it.

Logar residents however, complain that the motorbike was the main source of transportation for the poor people who could not afford cars hence the ban should be lifted
