KABUL (SW) – By introducing governor of Sar-e Pul and getting loyalty of governor of Panjshir, the Stability and Convergence team by Abdullah Abdullah took first step towards executive authority in defiance to declaration of victory for President Ashraf Ghani by election commission.
Although, Abdullah’s team continues to refer to him as the Chief Executive of the National Unity Government, it remains unclear if he has taken the recent steps as ‘president or the CE’?
However, Fazl Ahmad Manawi, a senior member of the Stability and Convergence team, said these steps are towards complete occupation of state by this electoral team.
Key figures in this electoral team, including Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum and Karim Khalili, had threatened to declare a parallel government before the final election results were announced, but that position was moderated after the election results were announced. Manwai said that they will expand the circle of provincial nominations and then take over the offices in center.
He added the current step is being taken with caution because of the "reduction in violence" deal for peace. Manawai added the northern provinces are the starting point, at the same time, talks are being held with the local powerful figures in the southern provinces of the country.
Mawawi said they do not seek a separate structure with a separate administrative system, but seek to form a national government in Afghanistan.
Separately, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has said it is extremely concerned by the events that are ongoing to replace government officials. ‘Resorting to force or any other unlawful means at the very time that efforts are ongoing to realize a reduction in violence – with the expectation that it can lead to the start of an intra-Afghan negotiations on peace – jeopardizes the population’s hope for peace’, it said in a statement.
UNAMA called on all parties to exercise restraint and address their grievances through dialogue and respect for the constitutional order.
