Abdullah: “Will utilize all options against vote fraud”

17/11/2019

KABUL (SW) – Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, a presidential candidate, on Sunday vowed to utilize ‘all options to stop vote fraud’ in connection with the presidential polls.

Addressing a press conference, he said the vote recount is not legal, and the Independent Election Commission should review its stance on this matter. He said the people of Afghanistan would only accept legitimate decision by the IEC.

Abdullah blamed the IEC for legitimizing up to 137,000 votes that balloted out of polling time. He described this move in clear contrast to the election laws and on demand of a ‘certain team’. Abdullah said adding up to 2400 shady polling boxes to the central database is also against the law, and not acceptable to the people of Afghanistan.

Abdullah Abdullah said up to 50 complaint letters have been sent to the IEC and international observers, but none has been responded. He added any effort to engage security forces for election related fraud would be considered ‘national treason’. He stressed the security forces are meant to protect the people, not stand against them.

This comes as the IEC commenced vote recount here on Sunday.
