KABUL (SW): Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Government of National Unity stressed on Monday that reforms in the electoral system are inevitable.
He said this while heading the cabinet meeting. The CEO stated that leaders of the government are busy in talks for these reforms to ensure that the parliamentary and district council elections are fairly and transparently held. He acknowledged the delay in the reform process. Abdullah said efforts would be made to ensure the elections on the dates announced by the Independent Election Commission.
The Chief Executive Officer also touched upon preparations for the NATO’s forthcoming Warsaw Summit. He asserted that the government is fully prepared to participate in this important summit that would be held next month. Abdullah highlighted that Afghanistan would seek to convince the international community about the government’s reform agenda, and would look for their backing.
He told the meeting that the international community is committed to stay by Afghanistan. Abdullah noted that the US Air Force has promised to technically assist the Afghan Air Force. He pronounced it crucial in fight against terrorism and restoring peace in the country.
