Abdullah nominates governor for Jawzjan

23/02/2020

SHEBERGHAN (SW) – Abdullah Abdullah has nominated Abdul Hai Hayat as governor for Jawzjan, said Bashir Ahmad Tayanej, a member of Stability and Convergence electoral team, and Junbish party leader.

He stressed to resist ‘electoral coup’ and defend people’s just votes from the presidential polls. Tayanej said work is underway on appointing governors, which would be followed by formation of a ‘cabinet by the inclusive government’.

He blamed the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan for supporting ‘an electoral’ team, and stressed it should instead strive to resolve the impasse.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has said it is ‘extremely concernede by the events that are ongoing to replace government officials. ‘Resorting to force or any other unlawful means at the very time that efforts are ongoing to realize a reduction in violence – with the expectation that it can lead to the start of an intra-Afghan negotiations on peace – jeopardizes the population’s hope for peace’, it said in a statement.

UNAMA called on all parties to exercise restraint and address their grievances through dialogue and respect for the constitutional order.
