DOHA (SW) – Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of High Council National Reconciliation Council, met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani on the sidelines of the intra-Afghan talks in Doha.
During the meeting, the chairman of the HCNR assured the US Secretary of State that peace is a priority for Afghanistan. "We have come to end the war and conflict and to establish a lasting and just peace in Afghanistan," the statement quoted Abdullah as saying.
The US Secretary of State said during the meeting that his country stands by the people of Afghanistan and supports efforts to achieve peace and an end to war and violence.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Abdullah also met with Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani. During the meeting, he thanked the Qatari government for its efforts to achieve peace in Afghanistan and for hosting the opening session of direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
The Qatari foreign minister also said that his country supports peace efforts to end the war in Afghanistan.
