Abdullah calls for end to violence against policewomen

KABUL (SW): Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah has said that violence against policewomen gives birth to disappointments towards the future of the nation.

Abdullah said this while addressing a gathering here under the banner ‘Afghanistan-Free from Violence against Women and Free from Corruption”. He stressed that the policewomen are striving to safeguard the rights of the women in the society hence they themselves should not be made target of violence. The CEO lamented that violence in the society has also penetrated into the security forces.

“If a single incident of violence against policewomen is tolerated that would mean that we have no hope for the future, a person who herself has witnessed harassment in working environment and cannot move ahead with honor and pride cannot protect the rights of other”, he said.

Addressing the moot, Mohammad Fareed Hamidi, the Attorney General, also stressed that efforts should be ensured to safeguard the rights of victims of violence. “Unfortunately, our experiences show that the victim of violence first suffer at home and is then again made victim with the attitude and questions when the victim approaches government institutions”.

Hamidi underlined that the campaign against violence against women does not mean to divide families but is actually meant to strengthen this institution by safeguarding the rights and honor of each member of the family. The AG promised to pursue the cases of violence against women and children candidly.
