Aazara on the verge of collapse to the Taliban

22/06/2019

PUL-I-ALAM (SW) – Residents in the restive Aazara district of Logar province fear the Taliban would overrun it if swift security measures are not put in place.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, two such residents, Mohammad Kareem and Khan Mohammad, said the Taliban have besieged the district from all four corners. They said the Taliban have taken positions around Aazara in neighboring Zazai district of Paktia, Hisrak district of Nangarhar, Katari area in Kabul and Dobandi area in Logar.

According to the locals, the Taliban are not allowing the locals to transport even food items to the district, which has caused panic among the residents. They blamed the provincial and national security and intelligence officials for turning a blind eye towards the appalling state of affairs here.

The provincial administration acknowledges the fact that the Taliban have besieged the district, but it is confident the insurgents would not be able to overrun it.

Shahpur Ahmadzai, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, said the security and defense forces have been put on high alert to give befitting response to the Taliban.

Aazara saw deadly clashes between the security forces and the Taliban last year as well.
