KABUL (SW) – The Afghanistan Academy of Sciences on Monday organized an academic seminar under the title ‘countering poverty and begging in light of Islamic Sharia’.
Sher Ali Zareef, member of the Islamic Sharia faculty of the AAS, said ragging violence, corruption and growing population are among the main reasons behind poverty and begging. He expressed concerns over rapid growth in population, and said the population of Afghanistan can double by the year 2050, but shortage of resources would cause serious troubles.
Syed Haib Shakir, another member of the AAS, said prevailing joblessness, drug addiction and growing disparity need to be addressed to counter issues of poverty and begging. He stressed citizens as well as the masses should work actively to fix these troubles.
Safe estimates suggest up to 54 per cent of population in Afghanistan is surviving on less than the minimum wage.
