KABUL (SW) – The deadly assault on the Ministry of Public Works in Kabul on Monday has left behind yet another tragic tale of horror.
Eye-witnesses told Salam Watandar the carnage began with four attackers wearing military gears getting down from a white car before it was blown-up at the rear entrance of the MoPW.
Ahmad Wali and Baaz Mohammad, two eye-witnesses told SW the attackers started indiscriminate shooting immediately after getting from car. They said the attackers were shouting ‘Allah Akbar’ before shooting everyone in sight, and throwing hand-grenades around.
Journalists were given a tour of the compound, which was littered with blood and smoke. The directorate of martyrs and disabled was faced with similar fate.
Waheed Majroh, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, confirmed 40 people got killed including 11 women and 29 men. He added the bodies of four attackers have been recovered. Majroh said among the 27 wounded include 18 men, 7 women and 2 children.
Najid Danish, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, said the due to the residential homes in the surroundings, it took hours to overcome the attack. He claimed the security forces rescued 357 people in the compound.
Though, no group has taken responsibility for the attack, but Abdullah Abdullah, chief executive officer, has blamed the Taliban for the massacre.
