SAMANGAN CITY (SW): In a show of commitment towards duty and protest against lack of resources, a police chief in Samangan province has established check posts with his personal expenses.

Sayed Basheer, the police chief at 3rd police district in Aibak city, told Salam Watandar that they have asked the provincial police authorities several times for the establishment of checkpoints in the city, but budget shortages did not let them build security checkpoints in the city. He explained that establishing security checkpoints in the city helps liftsthe moral of security forces and helps improve security.

On Saturday, pictures of Basheer circulated on social media showing him build bricks’ wall for security checkpoints in the city.

Mohammad Hashim Sarwari, member of Samangan Provincial Council, said that lack of attention towards police in Samangan has demoralized the personnel. He added that the police in the city do not have proper arms and equipments. Sarwari pointed out that the 3rd police district in Samangan is based in rented building.

Sarwari warned that the security situation would worsen if the Ministry of Interior paid no attention towards this. He further said that the Taliban militants forcefully collect taxes from the locals in areas where the state’s writ is weak.

Salam Watandar’s correspondent tried to talk to Samangan police chief in this regard, the police chief however did not responded.
