PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW) – One protester has been killed and six more wounded as police opened fire on demonstrators in Baghlan province.
Dozens of Baghlan residents took to the streets on Friday against final results for the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections. An organizer for the protest demonstration, Zabihullah Rustami, told Salam Watandar police opened fire on the agitators.
Nusrat Rahimi, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, said investigations into the incident are underway.
Head of the public hospital, Mohammad Anwar Wardak, has confirmed a dead body and four injured people were brought for treatment yesterday.
The protesters agitated against the final WJ results and arrest of the former provincial council chairman, Mehboobullah Ghafari. They also closed down the main highway connecting Kabul with the northern provinces.
They claimed a number of candidates involved in rigging have been elected to the Wolesi Jirga.
