A new coalition of power formes in the North

08/04/2018

MAZAR-E SHARIF (SW): Mohiuddin Mehdi, a member of the Jamiat-e Islami and member of the ‘Coalition for the Rescue of Afghanistan’ told Salam Watandar that a coalition under the name of the “Great National Coalition” among the ‘Alliance of the Afghan people’, ‘Afghanistan’s New Front’, ‘Council on Security and Stability’, and ‘Coalition for the Rescue of Afghanistan’ will be formed soon.

According to Mehdi, in the new coalition, which will enter Afghanistan’s political arena as an electoral bloc, Atta Mohammad Noor, Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq, and Abdul Rashid Dostum will play a key role.

Masood Tarashtwal, spokesperson for the Council on Security and Stability said that the ‘council’ is in talks with political movements and jihadist figures, however, a coalition or certain structure that has been agreed upon by all has not yet been formed.

Akram Arefi, a professor at the Kabul University said that he believes that the coalition is now more focused on the election and will be appearing as an electoral ticket for candidacy in the upcoming election. Therefore, these coalitions have always been prone to failure because of the multiple interests among the members.

The coalition is being formed meanwhile it is expected that Abdul Rashid Dostum, the first vice president and member of the ‘Coalition for the Rescue of Afghanistan’ will return back to the country next week.
