A moving tale of an Afghan repatriate from Germany

25/03/2016

KABUL (SW): Among the lot of Afghan refugees fleeing to the west, and some returning back, Allah Mohammad Kakar stands out with his unique tale.

The double-graduation degree holder was moved by pictures of pre and post World War Germany to eventually come back to Afghanistan and take part in its reconstruction. Talking to Salam Watandar, Kakar said he was in tears on witnessing the contrast in the two pictures.

He added that one picture was speaking volumes of the devastated Germany after the WWII and the other, more recent one, shining example of how the Germans rebuild, in a great way, their homeland after the war.

Kakar briefly served at the German Foreign Ministry during his two year stay in this country. His colleague saw him overwhelmed by the thought of why can he and other Afghans not do the same for their war-ravaged country. It was then that I decided and told my colleagues that I would return and serve my motherland, he said.

He said in his interview with the Salam Watandar that people must realize that rebuilding the nation is not the responsibility of the government alone. He stressed for the need of united efforts on the community level for the reconstruction of the country.

Kakar now runs a youth organization dedicated for peace and harmony. His organization has taught the art of glass painting to thousands of youth across the country.
