A Khost family coping with trauma & despair

25/12/2016

KHOST CITY (SW): A poor family in Khost that lost six of its members in a suicide attack three years back is struggling these days to survive.

The tormented family is now left with some 18 children. The mother in this tormented family told Salam Watandar the male members of the family had been self-employed as shoemakers and they had a decent life. “In the suicide attack, I lost my son, grandson and 5 nephews and two others were injured”, she recalled the sad incident.

Another woman in the family lamented that although the incident destroyed their lives 3 years ago, they are still coping and mourning the loss.

Abdul Satar, an elderly man who is the only male breadwinner left in the family, is compelled to work as a laborer and provide for 18 children, most of who are under the age of 9 years. “In these three years so far, we were helped only once by the government”, Satar mentioned.

Mohammad Mobariz Zadran, spokesperson for the provincial governor, said in this regard that government has provided some relief to the family. This unfortunate family, however, is not only coping with the trauma from the past but woes  about the future.
