A heartbreaking tale of abuse from Takhar

27/07/2016

TALUQAN (SW): Gulafroz, a resident of Ashkamesh district in northern Takhar province, was beaten and tortured by her husband to the extent that she lost her unborn baby.

Gulafroz; who still bears the scars of torture all over her body, told Salam Watandar that her in-laws started beating her when her sister in-law eloped, and her in-laws thought the she was behind it. She said that first it was her husband who started beating her and then joined his mother and sister who tied her legs with a rope and took part in battering her.

The unfortunate woman added that she lost her conscious, and when she regained it, she noticed that her face was badly bleeding. Gulafroz is currently receiving treatment in one of the hospitals in northern Kunduz province.

Naem Mangal, head of the public hospital in Kunduz, discarded the rumors that Gulafroz’s private parts were cut-off, a rumor circulating in the social media. He said that she was rushed to the hospital in bad condition but is much better now.

Gulafroz and her mother too rejected the rumor circulating on the social media. They urged the government to arrest and punish the perpetrators.

Khalil Asir, spokesman for the police chief in Takhar, said that the perpetrators are on the run and the security forces would do their best to arrest them.

Gulafroz, a mother of four children, is 23 years old who got married 10 years ago.
