KABUL (SW) – A number of armed motorcyclists opened fire on policemen in Kabul as they were getting ready for ‘Iftaar’ (evening meal with which Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset).
The incident took place last evening in the capital’s Dogh Aabad area leaving three policemen killed and three more wounded. Firdaws Faramarz, spokesman for the police in Kabul, said the incident took place at around 07:00 pm in the evening as the policemen were busy praying and having Iftaar.
The Taliban have taken responsibility for the attack.
In views of the security analysts, this attack indicates a change in the insurgents’ tactics, and a new strategy of using motorcycles for such attacks in Kabul.
Security analyst, Mirza Yarmand, said such attackers have hiding places and support in the area where they operate. He said the security forces should launch an operation to cleans such sleeper cells and bastions for the terrorists in the city.
Another analyst, Jawed Kohistani, said the Taliban wish to destabilize the capital city, and spread fears.
This is the second incident on security forces in the capital Kabul in a week’s time. The previous attack was aimed at police in the Pul-e-Charki area.
