PUL-I-ALAM (SW) – A security source in Logar province has said that dozens of Taliban fighters attacked the third security checkpoint of the Aynak Copper mine last night causing casualties among the security forces.
The source, who did not want to be named, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban had killed eight police officers at the Aynak copper mine and seized a checkpoint.
The Taliban have not yet commented.
Aynak Copper Mine is located in the Aynak area of Mohammad Agha district of Logar province. It is the largest copper mine in Afghanistan.
The Taliban also attacked a security base in Charkh district of the province last week, killing nine army soldiers.
